A milestone in HEAL-SLO’s policy group, the County Board of Supervisors decided to pass a policy that allocates a portion of food purchasing to local vendors. Buying local not only directly supports our local growers, but it also supports our planet by reducing emissions that would have been caused by transporting food across the nation. What are students eating for meals around the world?
VEG, a young blogger from the UK, has begun posting what she has every day from her school lunches and has asked outher children from around the world to send her their photos to compare.
The meals are judged on 6 categories:
Food-ometer – out of 10, how great the lunch was
Mouthfuls – to judge portion size
Courses – what was included in the meal
Health Rating – out of 10, how healthy the meal was
Price – what the lunch cost to buy

Cultural Competency Workshop
The Network for a Healthy California—Gold Coast Region and the Gold Coast Collaborative for Nutrition and Fitness are excited to present a training opportunity focused on the value of cultural competency in the role of public health.
This skill based training event will offer attendees an opportunity to better understand the importance of relationships and interactions with their target population, culturally relevant attitudes toward food, history and cultural competence.
