Food pyramid out ‘My Plate’ in for healthy eating

The Agriculture Department says its new healthy eating symbol called “My Plate” as it will show Americans that nutrition doesn’t have to be complicated. It takes the place of the food pyramid, which the government has used in various forms since 1992. “My Plate” is a simple circle divided into four sections that contain fruits, vegetables, protein and grains. Soda Tax Revenue in San Luis Obispo County

California faces a perfect storm: one of the greatest fiscal crises the state has faced since the Great Depression coupled with an unprecedented obesity crises that costs California more than $41 billion annually.  To help address this challenge, Assembly Bill 669 (Monning) would levy a one penny tax per fluid ounce on soda and other sugary drinks, raising an estimated $1.7 billion annually to simultaneously support public schools, improve the health of California’s children, and address the childhood obes ity epidemic.
