International Walk to School Day is October 5th

All over the globe, children, families, schools officials and community members will join forces and participate in the annual walk to school day on October 5, 2011 to show that they care about making a difference in their lives and in their communities.  By encouraging biking and walking, the regional rideshare Safe Routes to School Program increases the health and safety of our children by improving air quality around the school, integrating exercise into their daily routine and reducing traffic congestion. Students who walk and bike to school are also more prepared to tackle their daily school tasks, and have more fun getting to and from school.

Schools across San Luis Obispo County will be participating in International Walk to School Day, Wednesday October 5th.  Students K – 12 will be walking, biking or scooting to school in lieu of single family drop offs. HEAL-SLO members can assist Rideshare and help to expand their efforts into more schools and more neighborhoods.

Want your children’s school to participate?  It’s easy! Contact Program Coordinator, Angela Nelson at anelson@rideshare.org to get started or Amber Hendry at ahendry@co.slo.ca.us.
