More Grant Opportunities for HEAL-SLO Members

I am pleased to announce two current grant opportunities for HEAL-SLO
members to engage in obesity prevention efforts.

1.    Funding ($8000 per community) is available for obesity prevention
efforts in San Miguel and Oceano to fund pilot projects that demonstrate
the cost effective implementation of school wellness policies at the
school (or district) level related to promoting increased physical
activity or healthier eating. Please see the attached document for
details. We have established a deadline of October 1, 2009 for the first
round of funding.

2.    The San Luis Obispo County Community Foundation (SLOCCF) announces
the release of application guidelines for its Healthy Eating Active Living
San Luis Obispo (HEAL-SLO) Grant Program.  In 2009, $15,000 is available
for small one-year grants, maximum $5,000, for healthy eating active
living projects that address a variety of strategic actions and
environmental influences related to behavior change and reversing the
rising trend in obesity.  Applicants for SLOCCF funds should target
projects and community interventions that address the adopted Community
Action Plan recommendations.  Currently, funds are available through
HEAL-SLO’s California Endowment grant to address school wellness policy
implementation, so these will not be considered by SLOCCF in this round.
Applicants must be an organizational member of the HEAL-SLO Coalition and
have completed the Partner Commitment Form.  Priority will be given to
proposals that address the increase in preschool children ages 3 & 4 who
are overweight or obese.  Deadline for applications is October 1, 2009 for
projects to be conducted beginning in January 2010.  Applications may be
downloaded at or at
