These landmark changes will now guide planning to sustain resources, avoid sprawl and environmental impacts, and provide more housing and transportation choices.  The Board’s approval is a new direction toward more complete, affordable and sustainable communities and rural areas. The amendments to the Land Use Element policy document, Framework for Planning, can be read for the Inland area, which will take effect on May 28, 2009. The amendments for the Coastal Zone area will be submitted to the Coastal Commission for certification before final approval.

We appreciate your interest and especially thank those who participated in the process, for your thoughtful contributions.

The amendments and related information can be found online at www.sloplanning.org, under Recent News – Strategic Growth.
